New York City will COME ALIVE (as if it’s not already!) in celebration of Super Bowl XLVIII which will take place on February 2, 2014 at MetLife Stadium. And, would you believe that the Farmer’s Almanac predicts a huge storm that weekend?!? (Say it ain’t so). If you’re one of the lucky ones who snagged a ticket, good for you! Rumor has it, as mentioned in the SportsBusiness Journal, that every seat will have gloves, hand warmers, ear muffs, lib balm and tissues. Makes it a little easier, right?? But, if you aren’t heading out to Jersey, here are OVER 35 Super Bowl activities that you can enjoy right here in NYC!

From January 29, 2014-February 1, 2014, Broadway from 34th-47th St in Times Square will be closed to traffic for Super Bowl Boulevard, where more than 400,000 visitors are expected to attend. All events are *FREE* except the Toboggan Run.

An interactive football-themed extravaganza, highlights include:

*A seven story Toboggan Run located between 40th and 41st St (tickets can be purchased at the site)
*Free autograph sessions with both current and past NFL players noon-6pm daily between 39th and 40th St
*Free concerts between 8pm-10pm daily between 39th and 40th St
*A photo op with the Vince Lombardi Trophy and much more!

Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl Experience at Discovery Times Square NYC 2014

The NFL Super Bowl XLVIII isn’t the only big event going on in New York the week of January 27, 2014-February 1, 2014..the “Puppy Bowl X”, presented by Animal Planet, is also taking place!

Started in 1992 in Minneapolis, Taste of the NFL is not only a first class event that unites foodies and sports lovers, but it is a fundraiser that donates it’s proceeds to local charities. This years’ proceeds will benefit City Harvest, Food Bank for New York City, Community Food Bank of New Jersey and Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger. Forty chefs, representing every NFL city, including NYC culinary luminaries The Cake Boss, Kamal Rose from Tribeca Grill and Taku Sato from Nobu Fifty Seven will come together with NFL veterans as well with Miss America. Super Bowl Celebrity Bowling Classic at Bowlmor NYC 2014

The 9th annual NFL Super Bowl Celebrity Bowling classic, aims to raise funds and awareness for the NFL Foundation. Emceed by Super Bowl champion Ed “Too Tall” Jones, this tourney has amateur bowlers team up with NFL players, Hall of Famers and members of the Wounded Warriors Project. Over 45 NFL stars are slated to participate including: Greg Buttle, Justin Tucker, Lamonte Hunley, Chris Ward and more! Individual bowler registration is $750 and spectator fee is $250.

PepCity in Bryant Park NYC 2014

Midtown NYC will be coming alive between January 29, 2014-February 1, 2014! For three days leading up to the big game, Pepsi will be sponsoring #PepCity in Bryant Park, a *FREE* celebration taking place under a 10,000 square-foot dome. Featuring artisanal food samplings (Pepsi inspired??) that incorporate NYC themes (think Broadway and art) you can taste morsels from celebrity chefs David Burke of Townhouse and Kitchen, Marc Forgione and Michael Psilakis of Kefi and FISHTAG. 2:30-6:30pm on the Upper Terrace.

Super Bowl Virtual Theater: Running nightly on the facade of Macy’s Herald Square, you can see a tribute to the game of football in a spectacular video show from 5pm-9:30pm nightl at 30 minute intervals. Also, be sure to check out the NFL themed window displays. January 29, 2014-February 1, 2014.

NFL Rush Zone and NFL Play 60: Ideal for kids ages 6-13, an animated NFL experience highlighting all 32 teams in the league will take place in a heated tent located between 34th and 35th St. Open 12pm-10pm daily. NFL Honors at Radio City Music Hall NYC 2014

The night before the Super Bowl, the third annual NFL Honors will take place at Radio City Music Hall. 16 awards will be presented at this star-studded entertainment event including: AP Most Valuable Player, Pepsi NEXT Rookie of the Year, AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and many more!

This two-hour prime time special will air on FOX at 8pm on February 1, 2014. NFL Network will air the red carpet festivities starting at 7pm along with a preview of Super Bowl Saturday Night on January 31, 2014.

Kids, grab your parents, ’cause here is your chance to get a behind the scenes look at how to train like an NFL pro. This interactive experience at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan will feature clinics on how to be an NFL official, how to focus on physical fitness, a replay booth and even a chance to run through the NFL’s Play 60 obstacle course. While at the museum, keep an eye out for “real” NFL officials, current and former players and football executives.

Gridiron Greats Vintage Football Cards 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has on display a rare selection of vintage football cards from the (over 303,000 pieces) collection of Jefferson R. Burdick. Highlights include the very first to be produced in 1894 by the Mayo tobacco company, Hall of Famers such as Knute Rockne, Jim Thorpe and Red Grange as well as Frank Gifford, a Johnny Unitas Bazooka Chewing card and much more!
