Charlie Parker Jazz Festival and Birthday Celebration NYC 2014

Am American saxophonist and composer, Charlie “Yardbird” Parker was a key figure in the development and introduction of be-bop, a fast tempo-ed, often improvised style of Jazz. A seasoned performer, he suffered many addictions and died at the very young age of 35.

Parker, who moved to NYC as a professional musician, was known for a large catalog of compositions including: Anthropology, co-written with Dizzy Gillespie, Billie’s Bounce, Bird Gets the WormConstellation, Ko-Ko, Scrapple from the Apple, Billie’s Bounce, Relaxin’ at Camarillo, Cool Blues and Blues for Alice amongst others.

In celebration of his life and accomplishments, you can see a number of performances throughout NYC this weekend:
