Winter Solstice Celebrations 2013 in New York City
Although the Winter Solstice (the Pagan celebration also referred to as “Yule” commemorating the longest night of the year) is technically on December 21, 2013, there are celebrations taking place in New York City throughout the month of December.

Winter Solstice Celebration and Christmas Tree Lighting at the Queens Botanical Garden
The Queens Botanical Garden will have musical performances, photos with Santa, a *FREE* Garden tour, botanical crafts, a Holiday Marketplace and a tree lighting ceremony.

Tap + Cork Winter Solstice Wine and Beer Festival
Five wineries and five breweries including: Kelso, Fox Run Vineyards, Peak Organic Brewing Company, Brotherhood Winery and others will celebrate the holidays with the Winter Solstice tasting event, produced by Tap+Cork of the Brooklyn Beer & Wine Fest.

The 34th Annual Paul Winter Concert at St. John the Divine
Legendary Brazilian singer, Ivan Lins, will join the seven-time Grammy Award winning Paul Winter Consort in celebration of the Winter Solstice at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. A “contemporary take on ancient solstice rituals”, the concert will also feature gospel singer Theresa Thomason and the 25 dancers and drummers of the Forces of Nature Dance Theatre.

Hayden Planetarium astronomers and the Amateur Astronomers Association will guide you through the last night sky of the fall season.
Take a look through the state-of-the-art Zeiss IX planetarium projector from inside the Space Theater, and then weather permitting, head outside where you can observe the moon and stars. Bring your own binoculars and telescopes, if you have.

Back for its third year, Make Music New York Winter, is a *FREE* festival with over a dozen participatory musical parades that are open for all to participate.
